Intro Am. Federal Government

 This course is designed to provide a general introduction to the structure, organization, and functions of the national government. This course focsues on what the Constitution establishes and how that has evolved, for better or worse, over time.

Politics in America

This course seeks to identify, evaluate, and discuss the challenges to representative democracy that stem from the current political environment. Then students evaluate the avenues through which citizens can and do address these problems.

Making Public Policy

This course explores government actions to address social problems such as crime, poverty, healthcare, education, welfare reform, and the environment.

Governments Around the World

This course provides an introduction to the varieties of politics and governmental systems around the world. Students will develop skills in comparative analysis to understand why countries have distinct types of government.

 

 

 

Intro to the Analysis of Political Data

This course presents an introduction to the foundations and use of quantitative methods in political science/public administration. Topics include: conducting systematic research, measurement theory, bivariate analysis, hypothesis testing, and statistical inference.

Nonprofit Law and Policy

This course examines how policy influences nonprofits and how nonprofits impact policy.

Fundamentals of Nonprofit Managment

 This course introduces the basic concepts of what the nonprofit sector is and does. It also exposes students to a wide range of management issues today’s nonprofits face in pursuing their missions and daily operations. 

Advocacy, Policy, and Social Movements

This course examines the approaches used to understand why social movements form, why people join groups,  how/when groups can affect policy change, and what does it mean for a social movement to be successful.
